Synopsis:
“The Loan Shark” follows a week in the life of London-based Terry and his assistant Alfie as they make their way through the deals that keep their business running. We take a look behind the curtain of the 21st century loan shark and the people that are affected by the economic down turn that has struck this once booming city. Is anyone safe from the sharks that are circling the water?
Character BIOS:
[TERRY] [GENDER: MALE] [AGE: 35-45]
Terry is a man at the top of his game. He has worked in the loan shark business for the majority of his life and sits pretty at the top of London’s loan shark empire. Terry may be short in stature but he is well built and keeps in good shape through boxing at his favourite gym. He wears the finer things and is usually dressed in a 3-piece suit and likes to show that he is doing well for himself. He takes himself very seriously and exudes confidence but is self-conscious about his height. He is ruthless and doesn’t mind getting his hands dirty but then he has Alfie to do the hard graft. East London through and through he wouldn’t let anyone say a bad thing about his home town.
Character BIOS:
[ALFIE] [GENDER: MALE] [AGE: 30-40]
Alfie is Terry’s right-hand man. He has been at Terry’s side for most of his life and is the trusted number 2. Alfie is considerably taller than Terry and physically imposing and keeps himself in good shape. He dresses a little more casually in a shirt and trousers and fitted to show off his figure. He is never far from his smart trench coat which he wears everywhere. Alfie is a man very much in control of his emotions and very rarely lets on what he is thinking and is Terry’s voice of reason. Whilst he enjoys being in the line of work he finds himself, he can find it difficult to deal with some of the things he has to do but knows if he doesn’t he could lose his head. Alfie controls a team of underlings so is quite a leader in his own right. Like Terry he bleeds East London and is very proud of his roots and can be very protective about it.
Character BIOS:
JAMES – THE STUDENT] [GENDER: MALE] [AGE: 19-25]
James is a typical student. He dresses in a very relaxed manner and in lower end brands. James struggles with his money and never knows a good way of looking after it. As soon as it’s in his account it disappears just as quickly. James has got on the wrong side of his bank account and is in need of the money to pay his living costs and his student fees. This is when he crosses paths with Terry. Old habits die hard and he finds himself in trouble. Can he sort everything out before it becomes too late?
Character BIOS:
[MICHAEL – STUDENT’S FRIEND] [GENDER: MALE] [AGE: 19-25]
Michael is the complete opposite to James. He saves his money and can look after himself both living wise and in the clothing department. He dresses smartly and is a voice of reason, which doesn’t mean that James listens to him. He tries to help as much as he can but sometimes it’s like talking to a brick wall.
Character BIOS:
[PIERRE – PUB OWNER] [GENDER: MALE] [AGE: 30-40]
Pierre is European in heritage and speaks with a slight accent. His English is good and is very competent. Pierre dresses in a smart casual uniform and is very professional in the workplace. His business once boomed but now thanks to the economic downturn he is in need of money and Terry was his knight in shining armour. He has fallen behind in his payments and regularly underpays. What happens if you don’t pay your money?
Character BIOS:
[JANE] [GENDER: FEMALE] [AGE: 21-30]
Jane is a single mother of 3. She hasn’t made the wisest decisions in the past but loves her children. Jane was young when she had her first child which led to a separation between her parents and herself but has survived by pure grit and determination. She does the best she can for her children but when money dried up she had to find somewhere to get it. Banks wouldn’t take her and loan companies had already made life difficult enough so she turned to Terry. Terry has a thing for her and Jane knows it so uses her womanly charms to get through things at times despite it being a little awkward for her. But Jane is one of those people that keeps the payments up.
